TRB Funds Utility Detection Research
The US Transportation Research Board of the National Academies is providing $US1.6 million funding to go towards research to improve the detection of the position of underground utilities.
The objectives of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) are to improve the detection and accurate determination of the positions of buried utilities due to crowded near-surface utility space and new construction seeking deeper locations for safer installation.
The funding was awarded to Geospatial Holdings, Inc. and the Gas Technology Institute. The project is scheduled to run through March 2012.
Geospatial Holdings Inc. CEO Mark Smith said “This initiative will provide broad industry benefits, and potentially enhance procedures and develop standards for deep pipeline location and mapping throughout the US.”
