Schumer Pushing For New Airport Security Device To Fight Terrorists
Claims new scanner would have prevented Shahzad from getting past no-fly list
Claiming a new security device produced by a Long Island company would close the loophole allowing terrorists to get past no-fly lists, Senator Charles Schumer pushed the Department of Homeland Security to place the new scanning devices at airports.
Sen. Schumer insisted that the device could have prevented admitted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad from boarding an Emirates flight to Dubai.
"If the system would have been in place it is unlikely Shahzad would have made it aboard that plane," said Schumer.
$50 million in funding exists for the pilot program that would be incorporated at airports, said Schumer.
The new scanning device, manufactured by Intellicheck Mobilisa, would cross check passengers, weed-out fake IDs and track visa overstays, said Schumer.
